We are asking for donations to provide Freestyle Pool Passes to the Webster Groves Water Park, which removes barriers to the community swimming pool by providing free daily passes for individuals and families who require financial assistance. Daily rates for the water park are $8 for residents and $17 for non-residents.

Since 2021, the Freestyle Pool Pass has enabled members of the community to experience joy, fun and community at the water park.

Last summer, we distributed 1,700 passes. Over the five years the program has existed, donors have provided a total of 5,500 passes! Our goal for this year is to raise $15,000 and send an average of 12 swimmers, who would not otherwise be able to afford it, to the pool each day of summer.  That’s 12 of the 1,000 average daily patrons at the pool for 100 days of summer. 

Why We Give

Each summer, community members come together to commit to conscious inclusion by increasing access to the joy and connection shared at the Webster Groves Water Park. Since 2021, we’ve “pooled” our resources to support the Freestyle Pass. From children donating spare change to churches making large contributions, donors say that supporting this program feels like a tangible way to make our small corner of the world a better place.

The Freestyle Program is inspired by Mr. Benny Gordon, who was a key activist in ending segregation at the Webster Groves pool in the 1950s. Webster Groves recently renamed the recreation complex The Benny Gordon Recreation Center in his honor. The Freestyle Pass continues the legacy of his work by promoting an inclusive pool community where all children can swim together, regardless of financial means.
